| PERSONNEL TRAINING
The institute is committed to developing high-level talents with the knowledge about administration, management, political science and law, who are able to do management work and scientific research in the Party and government bodies, business units and institutions, social organizations; and professionals with the knowledge about theory, technology, and methods of modern management, and the ability to apply the knowledge, who are able to do the management work in the administration departments of public affairs such as culture and education, sports, health, environment protection and social insurance.
We were authorized to foster Masters of Public Administration in 2000 and began to recruit students in 2001. There are now four professors and five associate professors in the tutor group. In 2002, there were only 3 graduate students and two research directions -- administrative functions and performance management of government and study of comparative administrative culture. The number of students to be enrolled was enlarged since 2003. There were 12 graduate students and three directions -- government and public undertakings performance management, study of comparative administrative culture, and constitution and administrative law. There were 20 graduate students in 2004, 23 in 2005, and 24 in 2006. One research direction, human resource managements in government and public sectors, was also added in 2004. Furthermore, the students enrolled are basically those who volunteered to choose Shantou University. Shantou University is their first choice.
In addition, the institute has actively held various academic activities to improve students’ academic competence. A number of graduate students participated in the cultural tour organized by the graduate student union.
