Research Institute of Shantou University

Local Government Development Research Institute of Shantou University was established in October of 2003, and was approved as one of the Guangdong Provincial Key Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education Institutes. With a team consisting of nine professors and six PhDs, we have been awarded several national and provincial grants and funds in various research areas such as local governmental functions, political knowledgeablization and model construction of scientific governance, transfermation in administrative culture in county governments’ reframation, etc.

Currrently, the Institute have four major research specializations: (1) governance in county-and-village-level governments and new rural areas, (2) the administrative culture in Chao-shan region, (3) emergency management and the construction of a harmonious society construction, and (4) local E-government.

Our Institute has several publications: a book series on Local Government Development in the 21st Century; Journal of Local Government Development Studies; and Local Government Development Report Series.

Meanwhile, we are dedicated to cooperate with both domestic and international scholars in theoretical and practical studies on local government development. We are also committed to provide local governments with public policy consultation as well as theoretical guidance. The Institute is forging ahead towards its goal of becoming a leading research base within Guangdong province and an advance one in China as well.
